Prayer Thought – Offering Yourself

We sometimes find ourselves guilty of thinking that God is there to serve us.  In fact, sometimes our prayers make God to be like a supernatural vending machine.  We put a prayer in and out pops our fulfilled need.  And, of course, a great many of those prayers are self-serving (e.g., make me wealthier and healthier).  Listen, we’ve got to get over ourselves.  God is not our puppet and He is not so interested in America’s “me mentality.”

As I began my daily reading this morning, I was stopped in the very first verses of Judges 5.  Deborah and Barak sang a song that began in verse 2.  It says, “When the princes of Israel take the lead, when the people willingly offer themselves – praise the Lord.”

We must be a people that offer ourselves to God!  In many ways, Christianity is that simple.  Our mindset should not be, “What can God do for me.”  Instead it must be, “Lord, what can I do for You?”  “Lord Jesus, how can I serve You today?”
