There’s nothing wrong with taking pride in a job well done. In fact, getting satisfaction in our accomplishments is a part of life. Problems occur, however, when we get so caught up in our personal achievements that we fail to recognize the God who gave us the abilities we possess. You might have a problem if you find yourself saying, “I …” a bit too often. If we’re not careful, we can think we are overly intelligent and clever. From time to time, we need to let God reel us in!
Jeremiah 9:23-24 says, “This is what the Lord says: ‘Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches, but let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know me, that I am the Lord , who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,’ says the Lord.”
“Lord, help me understand that my achievements, my successes, must find their place in You. Though I may have intelligence or wealth, help me remember that these are gifts from You and they are not eternal. Let me always remember that knowing You is what matters most; let me boast only in this.”
